An Advent Devotion

As we continue our journey through Advent, we share a devotion from Pastor Tiffany Sundeen.

Psalms 18: 1-2
To the leader. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who addressed the words of this song to the LORD on the day when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of
Saul. He said: I love you, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer,
my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Devotion:
If I ever meet you at the hospital before you have surgery, I will bring you a rock. What?! Why? I remind us that rocks are eons of years old. They have witnessed eras in our world. The fissures, crystals, geodes, and layers have witnessed so much time. It takes pressure and time to form one small stone. The process is not an easy one. If we think of it as representing our life, those characteristics can symbolize lots of things that have happened in life. When you run them under water they reveal different times. More than that, God is our Rock we can always count on. God is the firm foundation we can depend on during the easy times, the difficult days and everything in-between. God’s solid ground is unshakable. That fact brings its own kind of peace. We then go through a meditation prayer using the verse above three times. “God is my Rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my God in whom I take refuge.” God is my rock is easier to remember! May the peace of God our Rock be with you!

Reflection:
Share a time you especially needed God as your rock.

Prayer Journal:
Thank you for being my Rock when…

Prayer:
Steadfast God, Thank you for being One I can always count on today and always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
